Wild Symbol Slots
A wild stands in for the symbol a win is missing. On Olympus a god often supplies it, and in Take Olympus Zeus is the wild himself.
The stand-in
A wild takes the place of any ordinary symbol a win needs. Land it where the last matching symbol should be, and the line or the way pays as if that symbol were there. Most wilds won’t stand in for a scatter or a bonus symbol. Your game’s rules say which ones they skip. A wild finishes wins that were one symbol short.
Now, some wilds do more than stand in. They can carry a multiplier, stay on the reels for the spins that follow or arrive in stacks. The published RTP counts all of that, so a game with busy wilds doesn’t return more because of them. They change which of your spins pay.
The gods who bring them
On Olympus the wild is often a god’s gift. In Take Olympus Zeus is the wild himself, in any shape he lands. Once you see him 4 symbols tall beside the other gods, the free spins open. Apollo’s turn on the reels brings more wilds at the end of his 10 spins. Here the god earns his place on the screen.
In the Rise of Olympus grid games Poseidon is the one with wilds in his hands. When a spin pays nothing in Rise of Olympus Extreme, he can drop 1 or 2 onto the grid. A charged Poseidon in Rise of Olympus Origins drops 2 to 4. A win of exactly 3 symbols in Extreme leaves a wild behind in its centre. In Origins the wilds stay out of the count when the grid is cleared for free spins.
Olympus 7s Dream Drop gives Zeus his own mini slot on reel 3, and it deals in wilds, with 3 of them paying 500x. The Feud and Olympus mini slots on reels 5 and 6 carry wilds with multipliers up to 5x. Zeus has a reel of his own to work there.
The wilds with numbers
Olympus Trueways lands its wilds on reels 2 to 5, and inside the free spins every one of them carries 2x, 3x or 5x. Several on the same spin add up, and the sum multiplies everything that spin pays. The intro screen gives the feature a panel of its own, a wild with a multiplier, beside the Coin Respin and the jackpot. No god hands these wilds out.
Every cluster win in Power of Olympus leaves between 1 and 3 wilds behind on the cleared spaces, some of them with multipliers. They carry 2x, 3x or 5x in the base game and run up to 100x in the free spins, added together inside one cluster. The god above the title doesn’t play a part. Olympus Unleashed gives its wilds 2x, 3x or 5x and adds them up along a line. Cats of Olympuss keeps its wilds to reels 2 to 4 and makes them the key to its coins. A coin won’t pay unless 2 or more wilds sit on neighbouring reels from the left.
The carrier games
Take Olympus prints 95.49% and pays 2,328x at most. Rise of Olympus Origins prints 96.29% on its best version with a 20,000x cap, and Rise of Olympus Extreme 96.20% with 50,000x. Olympus Trueways runs at 96.70% with its jackpots counted and 96.23% without, under a 5,000x cap. Olympus Unleashed prints 96.32% and 2,340x, and Cats of Olympuss 96.31% and 13,195x. None of those figures moves with the number of wilds on your screen.
The regulars’ pairs
A regular once told me the wilds on her machine came in pairs. After one landed she’d raise her bet for the next spin to catch its partner, and she kept that up all winter. The second wild came when it came. A bigger bet only raised the price.
How the Reviews Work explains why a game’s wilds and symbols are described only from its intro screen and the studio’s own art.
